If you ask people you will be surprised to know that their primary skin concern will not be lines, wrinkles or other skin issue but pigmentation. Yes, pigmentation is a matter of concern for a large majority of people. Dark or brown spots, pigmentation and uneven skin tone makes people self-conscious and often stressed. These are generally caused by too much production of melanin’ a skin colouring pigment.
The human skin is sensitive to the exposure of sunlight. When skin is exposed to light it starts producing more melanin in order to protect it from the harmful sun rays. This leads to dark skin complexion or spots or patches. Ageing is also responsible for the formation of dark or age spots however that too is a result of years of exposure to the sunlight.
There are other factors that also lead to pigmentation including emotional distress, hormonal imbalance and injury or trauma to the skin. Although hyperpigmentation if not a serious medical condition, it is of concern due to cosmetic reasons. There are many hyperpigmentation treatment options available nowadays but before trying out any medical solution, it can be reduced with the help of simple home remedies.
1. Apply fresh lemon juice: Lemon juice is a powerful skin bleaching agent because it has citric acid. Extract some lemon juice and use a cotton ball to apply it on the pigmented areas of your face. Leave it on for few minutes then rinse it off with water. Use it twice a day and you will notice a change in few weeks.
2. Apply raw potatoes juice: The raw potato is another amazing thing which can lighten and brighten your skin. This is because the potatoes have an enzyme called catecholase which has a capability of skin lightening. Take a slice of raw potato and pour few drops of water on it. Rub the slice on your skin surface for almost 10 minutes then rinse off with water. Do this 3-4 times daily for at least a month and notice a difference.
3. Use apple cider vinegar: It is one of the excellent remedies for skin lightening. It will not just lighten pigmentation but will also help restore the natural colour of your skin. Take equal quantity of apple cider vinegar and water and mix well. Use a cotton ball to apply this mixture on the pigmented areas. Leave on for few minutes and rinse off with water. Do this twice a day for few weeks.
4. Vitamin E and Aloe Vera: Both of these are excellent for treating hyperpigmentation. Aloe Vera has exfoliating and skin rejuvenating qualities while Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant which helps to neutralise the effects of UV sun rays while protecting your skin from sun damage. Take some aloe vera gel from the leaves of aloe vera gel and mix it with a vitamin E capsule which you can easily get from the local drug store. Apply this mixture on your face until it feels drying. Rinse it off with lukewarm. Do this at least thrice a week for good results.
5. Orange peel powder: When you eat oranges do not throw away the peels because they are rich citric acid that has bleaching qualities. Dry the lemon peel and grind them to a powder. Keep it in air tight jar. Take a tbsp of orange peel powder mix it with a tsp of orange juice, a tsp of milk and honey and make a mixture. Leave it on for 20 minutes then rinse off. Do it twice to thrice in a week.
These home remedies helps in reducing hyperpigmentation however if you need faster and instant results choose to have hyperpigmentation treatment.
